Lama Foundation: An Interfaith Home Above the Gorge

Rio Grande GorgeTiny Home & Camper Clusters · Culture and SpiritualityOctober 19, 2026

High in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains north of Taos, on a mountain long sacred to Taos Pueblo, the Lama Foundation has lived its founding purpose since 1967: the awakening of consciousness, spiritual practice with respect for all traditions, service, and stewardship of the land. Its gardens and people are sustained by a small year-round spring.

Residents share a semi-monastic life and the care of the land, and the foundation keeps ties with Taos Pueblo, the Hanuman Temple in Taos, Sufi and Benedictine communities and many others. Weekly Sufi zikr and Shabbat, Dances of Universal Peace, permaculture and natural-building retreats keep the circle open to visitors from all over. Few places along the river embody unitive practice quite so plainly.
