Rio Grande Community Farm: One Field, Many Hands
On the Los Poblanos Fields Open Space in Albuquerque, Rio Grande Community Farm has spent more than a quarter century growing food, soil and community together. It runs the largest community garden in New Mexico, with more than a hundred gardeners, and practices regenerative agriculture meant to build topsoil, conserve biodiversity and clean the water.
The farm also incubates new growers, shares farm equipment, turns community food scraps into well over a hundred cubic yards of compost a year, and has made room on its land for refugee growers through the Tres Hermanas network. Neighbors, newcomers and old farming traditions, sharing one field.
