Interfaith Power & Light: Houses of Worship Turn Toward the Sun
New Mexico and El Paso Interfaith Power & Light gathers people of many traditions around a shared conviction: that caring for the natural world is part of spiritual life. Its member communities have included Jewish, Buddhist, Bahá’í, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Quaker, Unitarian, Mennonite and Sikh congregations.
Its latest effort, Project HOW (Houses of Worship), helps churches, synagogues and mosques cut their energy use and add renewable power, with partners such as the New Mexico Climate Investment Center helping with financing. As director Desirée Bernard put it, the work answers a moral call to care for life. Different prayers, one roof of sky.
