El Abrazo del Río Bravo
Accessibility
Communion is for all, and that includes this website. geoAscent llc wants El Abrazo del Río Bravo to be usable by as many people as possible, including people with disabilities.
The goal
The site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Accessibility is treated as ongoing work, not a one-time task.
What has been done
- Text and background colors are chosen for readable contrast.
- Pages use clear headings and landmarks, with a skip-to-content link for keyboard and screen-reader users.
- The segment and subject filters, story buttons and links all work with a keyboard and announce their state.
- Meaningful artwork has a text description, and decorative art is hidden from assistive technology.
- When your device is set to reduce motion, the scrolling headlines stop and the story cards stop lifting on hover. A few small decorative animations in the line art still play; making those respect the setting is on the list.
Known limitations
The site uses animated line art and a scrolling headline ticker, which pauses when you hover over or focus it. Some older browsers or assistive technologies may not handle every effect perfectly. The stories link to outside sources whose accessibility this site can't control.
