Albuquerque’s Tiny Home Village: A Slow Ripening
In Southeast Albuquerque, Bernalillo County’s Tiny Home Village offers transitional housing in thirty 120-square-foot homes gathered around a common house with a kitchen, showers, laundry and shared space. Residents, individuals or couples, work with case managers toward their own goals, and the village is designed around community living rather than a dormitory model.
Local coverage has followed its ups and downs. Staffing shortages and strict entry rules kept homes empty for years; after the county relaxed its sobriety prerequisite (residents now commit to working toward sobriety) and filled its staff, the Albuquerque Journal reported the village nearly full. The county has also approved buying the land beneath it. A slow ripening, but a ripening.
